Ted notices

I deliver it and step aside.

Ted Agent is Cortex Labs' AI agent for the menu bar. When both apps are open, Ted can show a notice in the notch when something needs you.

How a notice looks

  • Ted's mascot presents the message in a card just below the notch, with the title and the text in plain sight. No hovering needed.
  • The action and the dismiss button stay visible, and long messages scroll inside the card.
  • The card retracts by itself after a few seconds. If your pointer is over it, it waits until you have finished reading.
  • When more than one arrives, a counter shows how many are waiting.

Private by design

  • The notice travels over a local connection between the two apps, never over the network.
  • Before showing anything, Shelf checks the code signature of the app on the other side, so only Ted can speak through the island.
  • With the Mac locked, the card folds away and only the mascot remains; the content never shows to whoever is looking.

Turn notices off in Settings › Privacy › Ted notices on the island. Turning it off stops listening, not just the display.

Without Ted, Shelf works exactly the same. Notices need Ted Agent 0.10.1 or later.

Cortex Shelf is free for personal and commercial use.
