Shelf

Keep your files close.

Drag files onto the notch and they wait on the shelf until you need them, instead of piling up on the Desktop.

Stacks

Group files into named stacks, like "invoice to send" or "screenshots for the bug". Loose files and stacks show their size.

• QuickLook a file without opening it.
• Export several at once.
• Share a file, or a whole stack, through the macOS share menu, AirDrop included when it is available.

Retention

The shelf has a size ceiling, and loose files (outside a stack) expire after a while, so it does not become another Downloads folder. Files in stacks stay until you remove them.

Quick capture

Select text in any app and press ⌥ ⇧ S: it lands on the shelf as a .txt file, without opening anything. This uses the Accessibility permission.

Downloaded PDFs

With Settings › Automations › Downloaded PDFs go to Shelf on, a PDF you download appears on the shelf by itself.
